Best Cheap Webhosting

Best Cheap Webhosting

Several weeks ago I got a call from a web designer friend of mine.

"John," He said "You won't believe this".

He went on to tell me about a Plastic Surgeon he was redesigning a website for. This client was paying $600.00 per month for his webhosting account.

"The incredible thing is" He related, "I can't get the current host to return my phone calls or emails".

After looking at this clients needs, I was shocked to find that there was nothing special about his site that justified his being on anything other than a basic shared webhosting plan. We quoted him a monthly rate of under five dollars.

In this case, the client was being raped by an unscrupulous host who was not only overcharging him, but not even providing the basic support
he needed.

This is an extreme example, no doubt, but it all to often characterizes the poor deal which most website owners fall into.

Several years ago, there was no such thing as a webhosting industry. Nearly all websites were hosted by local ISP's. The average monthly cost for hosting a website was $20.00 per month. Often, if you called the ISP with a technical question, they would tell you to buy a book or take a class.

Around 1996, we saw the emergence of a few "webhosting" companies. These were companies which were strictly committed to hosting websites. Using the economy of scale, they were able to offer incredibly useful webhosting packages for around $10.00 per month. What's more, some of these companies provided useful tech support which was geared towards meeting a website owners needs.

Fast forward to 2005 and we now see the emergence of a new type of web host - the cheap webhosting provider. These are companies which offer hosting for less than $5.00 per month.

Generally, cheap webhosting providers are newer companies. There's a reason for this. It's extremely difficult for the older companies to lower their prices when they already have a large customer base which pays higher prices. They'd be slashing their gross, and most companies just can't afford that.

So how do cheap webhosting providers offer such a low price to begin with?Part of it is that servers, hard drive space and bandwidth are much, much less expensive than they were several years ago. Cheap webhosting providers capitalize on this.

Another part is that cheap hosting providers use a different business model than the older providers. Webhosting is a very competitive business. Until recently, web hosts attempted to compete by providing the most tools and features. The problem with this model is that not everyone needs everything. Most web hosts provide free backup services to all of their clients. Backups are costly, and not everyone needs or wants them, but everyone pays for them because they're built into the cost of the package.

A cheap webhosting provider, on the other hand, might give you the basic features that everyone uses, but offer weekly backups as an available add on feature, putting the cost of backing up websites on only those customers who want that service.

This all sounds great, I know, but what about service? Will I get competent and fast customer support from a company which charges me $4.

Steps to Good Web Hosting

Steps to Good Web Hosting

The webhosting market is flooded with tens of thousands of different webhosts all offering lots of choices, so how do you decide?

The truth is 80% is these hosts all offer great hosting and to avoid the 20% that don’t you just need to follow the following 5 steps.

1. Type of hosting platform

The first step when choosing a webhost is to decide on the type of hosting platform, usually a choice between Unix/Linux and Windows.

Your choice is largely determined by your website and the technologies used to create it, generally a website created with Microsoft technologies will run on Windows servers while most other sites using open source will run on Unix/Linux based systems, the standard is generally Linux, and due to the fact that you will not be charged licensing fees by Microsoft this is also the cheaper option.

2. Hosting Features

Once you've chosen your type of hosting platform the next step is determining the hosting features you will require, for example blogging software requires the use of databases, and any sort of dynamic content will require PHP, you need to look at the make up of your website to decide on your features.

Common hosting features are.

Disk Space

Data Transfer Allowance

Bandwidth

Backups

Uptime

Money Back Guarantee

Domains Allowed

Databases (Number & type)

CGI, PHP, Perl, Python, SSI

Number of Email accounts

3. Connection Speed

The next vital requirement is a good connection, i.e. sufficient bandwidth, this affects the download speed of your website, a good way to check this is to see how fast their site loads in your browser, especially at peak times such as when people are just getting home from work. A good host will have connection redundancy i.e. more than one connection, you can ask about this when you speak to their customer support.

4. Cost

Choosing a webhost based on price alone is not a good idea, remember that the cost of your webhosting is more than just the monthly fee, think about the total cost of ownership this includes lost sales due to downtime & slow speeds, downtime rebates, extra bandwidth charges, setup costs, extra feature costs, and your monthly fee.

5. Good Customer Support

In order to have good customer support a webhost will have to be well established and be running a well organised webhosting business. It is preferable for the support staff to be based at the server farm and essential that they are well trained in server management – it is a good idea to telephone the customer support line of any potential webhost to get a feel for their level of knowledge, you can also ask them about their company infrastructure.

6. Uptime

If a webhosting provider has a published uptime of 99% it may sound pretty good, until you realise that over the course of one month equals 7.2hrs or 3.6 days per year – that’s 3days 14 ½ hours that you are not making money. It is therefore imperative that you choose a webhosting companyFree Web Content, which has a 99.99% uptime guarantee.

How to Get Cheap Web Hosting

How to Get Cheap Web Hosting

To advance on the internet with more domains and more hosting accounts has been a stumbling block for many because of the expense; hosting being the bigger expenses. But if you plan to operate with more sites in the future then perhaps this article will help you bring your plans forward. The sooner you own more of the internet the sooner your profits will increase.

As you progress your own understanding of the internet you'll come across the need to have more than one website for each project or niche. You may find a need to have explore that niche further and have a different website for each sub-niche. Rather than sit back and wait for just one website to do the business, you'll need perhaps six other websites that each try and dominate their sub niche to get traffic. If necessary they can send the traffic to the main website. Understanding this principle will increase you traffic ten-fold.

Many people and I have been guilty of the same thought, set up a different web hosting accounts for each new domain name they purchase. The only real advantage of this is if you plan on having say 60 sites and want to spread them over 6 hosting accounts. Otherwise you'll save huge amounts of your online budget by hosting new domains within your own current hosting account.

Some of the smaller hosting providers can confuse you to believe that each new domain needs a new hosting account. This is not true... and as such you should explore the internet further if I cannot explain the simplicity within this article.

Many so called bigger 'providers' have realized that to compete in the bigger market place they need to offer good deals. Such deals will include up to hosting 10 domains on one account, to hosting 25 domains on one account; and the more sophisticated businesses are now offering unlimited domains on one account.

It would seem prudent then to pool your resources and instead of having more than one account, use one provider and pay just the one fee. Furthermore you will find that these providers will give you one free domain for just signing up with them.

It should be pointed out that, like every business, your virtual company will evolve on the web, so you need to be prepared for evolution. You may, for example, upgrade you web site to include a variety of interactive properties or implement a sophisticated shopping card to drive your ecommerce store, all these amendments and upgrades will steal a little more web space each time. Moreover, your business will be developing and growing so you will want to reflect this within your virtual company.

I worked with one hosting provider from my early days in 2001 and would have suggested them to everyone as I thought they were excellent. Good customer service, pretty much reliable and my websites were seen on the internet. No qualms, no problems and no hesitations.

Everything was hunky dory and I accepted the $80 per month for all my sites. Then when I read more I found that you can now find hosting providers that allow multiple websites in one account. Today most multiple providers suggest 10 websites for one monthly fee. Yet even better news is that because of competition some hosting providers allow unlimited websites. Initially their costing was that little bit higher, but even that has come down to compete with the mainstream providers.

I hope this has explained the basics. Should you need either hosting, or hosting for multiple websitesFind Article, you can achieve this for $7.95 per month. For more information please visit my website: GlobalTop5.com/Web-Hosting.html

Web Hosting Provider – 5 Factors To Conside

Web Hosting Provider – 5 Factors To Conside

Choosing a web hosting provider is like oxygen: you never give it a second thought until you suddenly don't have any. It seems like it should be such a simple thing but what makes it so tricky is that there are so many of web hosting provider to choose from that it ends up becoming confusing a decision to make. So, how do you decide if you have found the one that you should use for your Internet business?

1.) First, the industry standard for uptime is a minimum of 99%, so you want to check that out first. Does the given web hosting provider service have a track record of being that reliable? You really don't need your site to go down a lot. Ironically, the providers that promise you unlimited storage space and bandwidth are the ones that tend to let your site crash the most, because they get overloaded. So, be wary of these.

2.) Next, consider how much space you'll get with a given provider. As mentioned above, those who offer no limits to the amount of diskspace may not be the most reliable. But if you are going to want to have an image gallery or something else that would gobble up megabytes, you may have to consider going for one anyway. But if that's not what you're going to need, perhaps you only need anywhere from 30 to 50 MB of storage space.

3.) You also don't need unlimited bandwidth unless you're trying to become the next MSN Live. You'll still get all the traffic you need without infinite data transfer allowance, so once more stick with going for uptime reliability. 1 GB is plenty. Along those same lines, you probably don't need unlimited e-mail accounts, or even dozens of them. If your target web hosting provider offers you about 15 or so, that's a good deal.

Make sure your target web hosting provider will give you CGI-bin access. They'll probably have to have the script for them pre-installed for your security. If you write scripts yourself, be sure your provider will support your languages--PERL, C++, or whatever you may use.

WebHostingCon 2009 is Coming

WebHostingCon 2009 is Coming
For those of you who have been around the website hosting industry for at least the past few years, it is common knowledge that one of the industry’s most well-attended and prestigious conferences and trade shows is HostingCon. For those of you who are either newer to the industry, or who just haven’t had the opportunity to participate in HostingCon - this year’s event offers many reasons to consider attending.
I have personally participated as a speaker or panelist at every HostingCon event since its inception. I recall that last year’s panel on marketing featured none other that myself and another writer and industry marketing veteran from WebHostMagazine and WebHostBlog - Mr. David Dunlap.
A recent email notified me of my acceptance as a speaker at HostingCon 2009. Among the bits of information in the email sent from the HostingCon organizers was the fact that this year the group received over 120 speaker proposals. While the selection committee had difficulty narrowing the speaker field down, the remaining chosen speakers are noted to create an ”exceptional program with diverse and timely topics and actionable substance”.
But don’t take my admittedly biased opinion on HostingCon without some backup - here’s what a few other website hosting professionals had to say about HostingCon 2009.
Jeff Hardy, Vice President of Business Operations with SmarterTools, Inc. commented, ”SmarterTools has customers and technology partners in over one hundred countries. HostingCon is one of the few events that brings the industry together in a way that provides an opportunity to renew our network of industry professionals and meet new ones. Each year SmarterTools comes away from HostingCon with new ideas and perspectives that helps us drive to excellence in our host-friendly software and SaaS offerings.”
Daniel Foster is co-founder of UK web hosting firm 34SP.com and had these comments regarding HostingCon, ”We’re planning to attend HostingCon 2009 in Washington, D.C. to see what’s hot in the industry this year, what people are talking about and where their plans are taking them. We’re also looking forward to catching up with friends made at previous HostingCons and meeting new faces. There’s at least as much to be gained from the show floor and evening events as there is from the presentations given during the day.”
Takeshi Eto, V.P. Marketing and Business Development with ASP.NET hosting firm DiscountASP.NET adds, ”We attend every year because HostingCon is a great opportunity to network. Also, being a niched Windows hoster, we go to a lot of Microsoft events and it’s good to get exposure to what is going on with other areas of the hosting industry.”
Be sure to check out the full story at HostingCon.com. You can see the list of exhibitors, and soon you’ll have access to the complete list of speakers as well. I hope to see you in Washington, D.C. in August.

GoDaddy Web Hosting Firm, Testifies on White House Internet Security Mandate

GoDaddy Web Hosting Firm, Testifies on White House Internet Security Mandate

Web hosting domain registrar, GoDaddy.com, recently testified in front of a Congressional subcommittee about the critical need for a continued relationship between the U.S. Department of Commerce National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
Go Daddy's General Counsel and Corporate Secretary Christine N. Jones strongly urged the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications, Technology and the Internet to renew, or at the very least extend, the Joint Partnership Agreement (JPA) between NTIA and ICANN. The JPA is currently scheduled to sunset September 30.
Ms. Jones testified, ''ICANN is responsible for an important public trust,'' noting significant concerns about ICANN's lack of transparency and accountability. ICANN was created 12 years ago to administer a globally acceptable Web address system. While Go Daddy acknowledges ICANN has made progress in achieving some of its original goals, the company feels there is much more to be accomplished before the U.S. Commerce Department recommends ICANN operate independent of NTIA oversight.
A majority of subcommittee members noted their shared concerns about allowing the JPA to sunset.
At one point during the hearing, Counsel Jones was asked by Rep. John Shadegg of Arizona about Go Daddy's transparency concerns of ICANN. Ms. Jones noted the lack of open meetings held by the ICANN Board and accused ICANN of ''stonewalling'' registrars who request board meeting transcripts. ICANN's CEO Paul Twomey, Ph.D., disagreed with Ms. Jones' assessment. His retort, however, did not appear to allay the subcommittee's concerns.
The security of the Internet was also a high priority at this hearing, as it is for the current White House administration. President Obama is keenly aware of the extraordinary dangers a compromised Internet would cause to national defense and the world's economy. Those concerns led to his announcement last week of a ''cyber-security czar'' to help protect the nation's crucial telecom infrastructure and information systems.
As the world's largest domain name registrar and a leader globally in both web site hosting and eCommerce, Go Daddy worries about many of the same issues. The company believes strongly that, without NTIA oversight, ICANN may be vulnerable to ''capture by another government, international organization, or business that does not have a secure and stable Internet as its top priority,'' declared Ms. Jones at the hearing.
Go Daddy also believes the JPA between the U.S. Department of Commerce and ICANN is a critical ingredient for a safe and secure Internet. Ms. Jones added, ''It is essential for both international commerce and the security and stability of the Internet that the relationship between the NTIA and ICANN continue.''
This is not the first time Go Daddy has headed for Capitol Hill in defense of a safer and more secure Internet. Just last year, Go Daddy worked tirelessly to help pass two new federal laws - one protecting children from online sexual predators - and a second, providing web companies with much-needed tools to take illegitimate Internet pharmacies offline. In addition to its work in Washington, Go Daddy donates generously to charity. In 2008, the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based company gifted $1.7MM to charities which help the less fortunate. Go Daddy employs more than 2,100 people and operates offices in Scottsdale, Gilbert and Tempe, Ariz., as well as Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Denver, Colo. and Washington, D.C. The Internet giant has more than 6.6MM customers and 35MM domains under management. The company offers 50+ products to enhance Web sites for individuals and online entrepreneurs and is also known for its industry-best 24/7 personalized customer service.

Key among these is hourly billing for CloudLayer Computing instances.Nathan Day, Chief Technology Officer for SoftLayer offered, ''Our CloudLayer suite provides comprehensive and powerful on-demand computing resources. With the addition of these new service features, our customers have an even finer degree of scalability at their disposal.''Now available is:
1 Core —$0.15/hour
2 Core —$0.25/hour
4 Core —$0.35/hour
8 Core —$0.50/hour
Outbound bandwidth usage will be charged at $0.10 per GB. As with all SoftLayer computing services, inbound and private network bandwidth is a free service.
Also added was the capability for customers to instantly upgrade computing instances via the company's industry-leading, proprietary Customer Portal. The following can be upgraded:
Core and RAM
Uplink port speed (no reboot required)
Bandwidth allocation (no reboot required)
Additional disks
The upgrades are processed automatically and take only a few minutes to complete. While ordering their upgrade, customers are given the option to specify a time for the upgrade to occur.
CloudLayer was released early last month and includes CloudLayer Computing instances, CloudLayer Storage, and CloudLayer CDN. Each is available as a standalone service, or can be integrated with SoftLayer dedicated servers and automated services to create a unified computing environment. CloudLayer provides a wide-range of benefits, including:
Pay As You Go or Monthly Packages: Monthly billing is based on hourly usage or monthly plans with no long-term commitment, letting customers optimize their return on technology investment by paying only for the resources they need and use. Hourly billing will be offered in the near future.
Immediate Scalability: Services are added in real time to accommodate unexpected or temporary changes in demand, providing exactly the level of IT power and capacity as needed, when needed. Ease of Use and Control: Full control via SoftLayer's Customer Portal and API provides streamlined, simplified management, as well as direct access to all SoftLayer services and tools.
